The Development of Learning Devices Based Realistic Approach to Improve Spatial Ability Junior High School Students

This study aims to produce the learning devices based realistic approach that effective to improve the spatial ability of Junior High School students. The type of this study is a development research through 4-D models from Thiagarajan that consist of four stages, namely : 1) Define; 2) Design; 3) Develop; and 4) Disseminate. The subject of this study is the students from 8th grade in SMP Negeri 30 Medan. The test done in this study is two times. Learning devices that developed consist of RPP, Teacherís Book,Students Book, students worksheets (LKS) and the test of spatial ability. The result showed that : 1) The learning devices developed has completed the requirement of effectiveness that consist of mastery of classical learning that reach 86.11% from the 2nd test, the achievement of learning objective from the 2nd test, the learning time is efficient and the student response is positif against the devices learning. 2) The students spatial ability in SMP Negeri 30 Medan by using learning devices developed based realistic approach is increase from the total average 72.6 at 1st test become 76.3 at the 2nd test.
