Language Teaching Materials Development Based On ESP Principle at Postgraduate Program of UNIMED

This research is aimed at discovering a powerful teaching materials based on the principles ESP in developing English language skills for academic and work purposes. The results of this study are expected to produce (1) relevant English teaching materials for postgraduate students at Unimed related to the principles of ESP as well and (2) learning pattern which is capable to enhance critical thinking in English. This research is accomplished at Postgraduate Program of Unimed in 2016 based on research and development (R&D). ESP is an important area in English Language Teaching today. There is a large variety of professions for which tailor-made courses and materials are of utmost importance for effective and task-based learning. Consequently, the role of ESP teachers at least to some extent differs from the role of General English teachers. It usually involves needs analysis and syllabus design in addition to materials selection. To figure out the effect of the relevant teaching model to ugrade English competency well and supported by critical thinking skill. Quacy experiment research with control group posttest only design comes in to use. The instruments of this research consists of questionaire and document recording. Data were analized by utilizing descriptive analysis tecnique and t-test. This research requires one phase in one year out of three years in its completion. At the first year, it is to find out English needs discovered as the foundation of teaching materials based on genre, and teaching materials in accordance with learning that pushes studentsí critical thinking suitable with the world of academic competency and English for specific purposes.
